Why is acid pickling performed before cold drawing?
2025-09-15 10:38:42

Acid pickling removes surface scale from wire rods, preventing damage to dies and wire surfaces during drawing. It also exposes the metal substrate, facilitating subsequent phosphating and lubrication. Common acids used are hydrochloric or sulphuric acid, with concentration, temperature, and duration strictly controlled to avoid over-pickling or under-pickling that could compromise quality. Thorough rinsing and drying follow acid pickling.
