Why does work hardening occur during cold drawing?
2025-09-15 10:40:51

During room-temperature drawing, metal grains elongate and flatten, increasing dislocation density. This elevates strength and hardness while reducing plasticity – known as work hardening. Though enhancing wire strength, continued deformation requires annealing to restore plasticity for subsequent drawing stages.
